LSF is a distributed computing system that helps to better exploit computing resources on a network. Hosts from various vendors can be integrated into a meta computing environment. This presentation firstly overviews the features of LSF available in the product suite. It then describes the production setup at the Swiss Centre for Scientific Computing concentrating on the implementation of LSF batch on either a Sun server or on an HP workstation cluster. It is then shown how LSF adapts to a more sophisticated and complex computing system, the HP Exemplar SPP-2000, pointing out the peculiarities, advantages and disadvantages of such an environment from both the administrator and the users view point.
