Abstract
In 1994, the BfS (federal office for radiation protection) bought a parallel computer CONVEX SPP-1000, which was updated to an SPP-1600 in 1997. This talk describes the experience we gained and the problems we encountered in the past 4 years, and our plans for the future.
Firstly, The SPP-computer is used as a server for database applications that are running under the database system ORACLE. The applications are specially developped for the BfS or cooperating organizations. Secondly, complex numerical computations are performed on the SPP. We summarize the experience in using and administering these applications on the SPP-computer.
Finally, we report our plans to migrate to a HP V-Class computer in the near future.
