Load Balancing with Applications in Operations Research and Scientific
Computing
Combinatorial Optimization and (adaptive) Finite Element Simulations are
two quite different application areas demanding for the increased
computational power and memory resources offered by parallel systems.
Due to their dynamic behavior both types of applications also require
sophisticated load balancing algorithms to be able to fully exploit
the benefits of parallel system.
The talk introduces both areas of applications, discusses similarities
and differences with respect to load balancing, and presents efficient
solutions for the different kinds of load balancing problems.
